Manchester City demonstrated FA Cup superiority, as they always do, in thrilling 2-1 reverse win against Bournemouth in the quarter-final at the Vitality Stadium on 30th March 2025. They advanced to the semi-finals, where they will face Nottingham Forest.

Bournemouth Strike First

The match started with Bournemouth being in good form to take on the champions. City were shocked in the first half by their visitors as Evanilson had scored the goal from a well-organized attack. Possession was in the hands of City but could not be broken up in the first 45.

City's best chance of the half was when they were awarded a penalty, but Kepa Arrizabalaga, Bournemouth goalkeeper, denied Erling Haaland's shot from the penalty spot. The miss is City's latest setback in a half of play where they trail by a goal.

Haaland's Redemption and Injury Worries

Manchester City came out onto the field in the second half with so much energy. Haaland, who was so desperate to get back level after he had missed the penalty, netted in the second half with a decent shot, his 30th goal of the season. It was a feat in which he shattered the record that was set 21 years ago since it was previously held by Ruud van Nistelrooy, and he solidified himself as football's greatest striker.

But City's celebration was short-lived as Haaland was later replaced off with an ankle injury. His availability will be a top concern for Pep Guardiola as the club have major fixtures in domestic and European competition.

Super-Sub Omar Marmoush Steals The Limelight City's savior was substitute Omar Marmoush, who scored the moment he came on. Egyptian forward Marmoush was the beneficiary of a tremendous through-ball by youngster Nico O'Reilly, the impetus behind City's fightback. O'Reilly, a second-half substitute, was the mastermind behind both goals and illustrated why City are having so much faith in youth. Manchester City's FA Cup dream of claiming another to their trophy cabinet now within reach with a 2-1 triumph. It is their seventh successive FA Cup semi-final qualification, making them stronger on the competition.

What's Next?
Manchester City will now concentrate minds on their semi-final tie against Nottingham Forest. Bournemouth will boast of their stubborn effort but be left to rue being unable to seal victory. With the business end of the season now staring in front of them, all eyes will now turn towards Haaland's injury and City's quest for honors.
